SUMMARY:Berkshire Bach Society: Dane Johanson performs Solo Cello Suites
DESCRIPTION:Cellist Dane Johansen brings our 2024-2025 season to a close with a solo recital of works by J.S. Bach\, Benjamin Britten\, and Gaspar Cassadó. \nA member of the Cleveland Orchestra since 2016\, Johansen was featured in the film Strangers on the Earth that chronicled his nearly 600-mile journey following the Camino de Santiago\, the ancient pilgrimage route from France to Spain\, with his cello on his back and stops to play Bach cello suites in churches along the way. During the trek he attracted a growing audience of fellow pilgrims and experienced a revolution in his thinking about performing music for others. Ten years after walking the Camino\, he brings his artistry to Berkshire Bach and shares an intimate and contemplative program with our audience. We began our season with a showing of Strangers on the Earth and now come full circle with a solo recital by this gifted artist to conclude our 35th anniversary year. \nJ.S. SUMMARY:Concert: Jacob Hiser & Ananya Ganesh
DESCRIPTION:A versatile pianist from the Boston area\, Jacob grew up playing bluegrass\, country\, blues\, rock\, and European classical music\, eventually falling in love with jazz as a teen. He studied at Missouri State University and New England Conservatory and is currently collaborative piano staff at Phillips Exeter Academy and Boston Children’s Chorus. \nAnanya Ganesh is an improviser from Madras based in North America. Playing with and at the limits of the ear and of embodiment\, their work unfurls as expressions of indeterminacy\, spontaneity\, and the joys of dissonance and (in)access. Ganesh sculpts open forms through the explorations of dynamics\, texture\, density\, registral color\, imbricated lines\, and sparseness. \nJacob says he strives to create webs of connection between voices near and distant\, in time and space and genre\, tracing threads of musical lineages and kinship\, particularly highlighting those invisible threads who tend to be overlooked or forgotten.   With these two musicians\, we are sure to enjoy an interesting\, enlightening\, and unforgettable afternoon!

It can be a place to share news of your day\, news from your heart …your joy and your sorrows are welcome. The Kindness Bench is a no judgment zone. Singer songwriter JoAnne Spies (more info on the bench and JoAnne here) will bring different musical instruments\, poems and creative prompts as well as the time to share silence. You may choose to listen to soothing sounds or collaborate on a song\, a poem or a prayer. JoAnne is an interfaith minister and may bring prayers from different traditions to share. Make time for kindness and schedule a visit. Or just amble by and have a seat. \n       WHERE: The bench is located on the east side of the church.\nOr you may see JoAnne and her instruments on one of the brightly colored chairs.\nIn inclement weather come inside.
